As per Kagome Foods India, the food and retail industry of India is expected to grow and touch $ 482 billion in 2020.
In a statement they said, “The contribution of the food processing industry to India's GDP through manufacturing has been more than 8% in FY17. The Indian food and retail industry is expected to grow to $482 billion by 2020”.
Google and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) published a report that said the online food industry in India will hit a market of $ 8 billion in the year of 2020. As per the report, it will grow at a CAGR of 25 % to 30%.
The trend of online order of food has now started in almost 500 cities of India. And the variety of cuisines along with the discounts and convenience that are been offered by the food tech companies are further boosting the sales.
According to FICCI, the Indian food services (both organized and unorganized) which was at Rs 3,37,500 crore in 2017 is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% in the next 5 years and reach Rs 5,52,000 crore.
In such a scenario, the job prospects will obviously increase with the growing needs of the industry. Culinary studies can play a big role in providing skilled professionals to the industry in such a scenario.
For an industry that is growing with such rapid speed, requirement of skilled professionals is of utmost necessity. However, without the knowledge of culinary of molecular gastronomy, it won’t be beneficial for the applicants.
